THE NUMBER 40

Number 40 – The Mighty Bulldozer, is God’s caterpillar that has the capability of bulldozing long term problems, hindrances.  Breaking up fallow grounds and levelling grounds; bringing forth restoration; lifting up an individual to their places of honour in life; fast tracking.  It signifies the undertaking of big events etc.  Many who have dared to travel on the road of 40 days and nights of fasting will probably testify of the wonderful role that this number has played in their respective lives.  Many who have travelled on a fasting and prayer of 40 days have come out like a mighty giant and have been able to take giant steps into the high levels of their lives. Have experienced acceleration in many areas of their lives. Others include: 

The downpour of rain during the flood for 40 days and nights (Genesis 7:17); 

After another 40 days the dispatching of the Raven took place. ( Genesis 8:6). 

Moses fasted for 40 days and nights on the mount whilst receiving the commandments from God. (Exodus 37:28; Deuteronomy 9:9). 

The spy’s exploration of the land of Canaan was for 40 days.   

Moses prayed for Israel for 40 days and 40 nights.  (Deuteronomy 9:25). 

Goliath’s defiance of the Israel was for 40 days before his defeat. (1 Samuel 17:16). 

Elijah’s journey to Horeb was 40 days (1 Kings 19:8).  

Ezekiel’s lying on his right side - Probably in prayers and fasting was 40 days (Ezekiel 4:6). 

Jonah gave 40 days warning to Nineveh for them to repent. (Jonah 3:4). 

Christ’s stay in the wilderness prior to temptation was 40 days and nights (Matthew 4:2)

 His appearance after his resurrection was 40 days (Acts 4:3) 

Israel’s wandering in the wilderness was 40 years( Exodus 16:35). 

The recurring pattern of servitude and deliverance in the era of the judges was for 40 years (judges 3:11, 13:1).
