But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof. ~ Romans 13:14
How can a person put on Jesus Christ in order not to make provision for the flesh? When a person reads, studies, meditates, and prays the Word into their life, they are naturally putting on Jesus Christ. Such a person’s life will be full of Grace and truth because of the presence of Jesus Christ that is upon them.
Reading from the Bible in John 1:5, we are being told that “The Word was God.” And in the 14th verse of the same chapter, we are told “And the Word was made Flesh, and dwelt among us”. Jesus Christ is referred to as the ‘Word of God’ full of Grace and Truth. As the Word of God is being fed upon, that Food is Jesus Christ – our daily bread, the righteousness of Jesus Christ begins to be established in our spirit and soul. He begins a pruning work in our mind, transforming and empowering us to overcome the flesh. It is not by might nor by power, but by the power of God that will be at work in us by His Holy Spirit. This is still Jesus Christ in us sanctifying us and delivering us from gratification of the flesh.
Please note: No one can try in his or her own effort to overcome the deeds of the flesh. It is only Jesus Christ that can make anyone of us to be what we ought to be in holiness. It will have to be the making of God, at work within us. Therefore, we must look up to him, if we are to live victorious over the deeds of the flesh.
Ephesians 5:26-27 States “that this is the desire of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ that He might sanctify and cleanse us with the washing of water by the Word. That He might present us to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing, but that it should be holy and without blemish.
As we put on Jesus Christ by allowing His word to have first place in our life, we begin to experience cleansing and sanctification of our spirit and soul, which will empower us to defy every entertainment of fleshly desires. Hence, we are being delivered from fulfilling the lust of the flesh.
To put on Christ Jesus, is to put on your safety helmet, safety shield, powerful breastplate and protective garment. Fiery darts coming from the hosts of hell will never be able to penetrate you. Making provisions for the flesh will occur when we do not allow Jesus Christ a place in our heart for cleansing with the word.
Some of the lusts of the flesh is being described in Galatians 5:19-22 are as follows: Sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarrelling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. The bible warns that those living that sort of life will not inherit the kingdom of God.
I pray that each one of us will experience the mighty transformation of God upon our lives in Jesus mighty name. Amen.
